After BN candidate, Gerakan president Datuk Mah Siew Keong won the Teluk Intan by-election, the BN and Gerakan have accelerated the efforts to honour commitments made during the election, including enclosing a 30-acre land for the construction of a university campus.
Reliable sources from the Perak Land and Mines Office stated that the Perak state government has enclosed a piece of 30-acre land to build a university campus.
Meanwhile, sources from Gerakan said that the party is going to build a branch campus for the Wawasan Open University and an administrative centre.
There are currently two public university branch campuses located in Teluk Intan, namely the University of Teknologi Mara and University of Kebangsaan Malaysia.
Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said when answering a question by Sin Chew Daily during his visit to Kampung Baru Batu 12 earlier that the state government will fully cooperate with Gerakan to honour election promises, including providing land to build a university campus.
It was said that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will be visiting the Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan to attend a public gathering on June 14. He is expected to announce a PR1MA homes project in Jalan Sungai Nibong.
Mah has repeatedly expressed his determination to fully implement his election manifesto so that Teluk Intan voters would continue supporting the BN in the next general election.
